Colonial America

Colonial America began with the establishment of Jamestown in 1607, the first permanent English settlement. Over the next century, English, Dutch, and French colonies expanded along the Atlantic coast. Settlers faced challenges including harsh conditions, conflicts with Native American tribes, and disease. Slavery gradually became an integral part of the Southern colonies’ economy. These early developments laid the social, political, and economic foundations for the future United States.
