Michelle Obama

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson was born on January 17, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, to Fraser Robinson, a city water plant employee and Democratic precinct captain, and Marian Shields Robinson, a secretary at Spiegel's catalog store.

Michelle Obama graduated from Princeton University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a minor in African-American studies. She completed her senior thesis on 'Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community.'

In 1988, Michelle Obama earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Harvard Law School. At Harvard, she participated in demonstrations advocating for the hiring of professors who are members of minorities.

Michelle Obama's husband, Barack Obama, was sworn in as a U.S. senator on January 4, 2005. His political career brought Michelle into the public eye.

When Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States on January 20, 2009, Michelle Obama became the First Lady. She is the first African-American woman to hold this position.

Michelle Obama launched the 'Let's Move!' campaign on February 9, 2010, to address the challenge of childhood obesity. The campaign's goal was to encourage healthier eating habits and more physical activity among children.

On September 4, 2012, Michelle Obama delivered a widely praised speech at the Democratic National Convention, supporting her husband's bid for re-election and speaking about their shared values.

Michelle Obama published her memoir, 'Becoming', on November 13, 2018. The book details her life from childhood through her years in the White House. It became the best-selling book in the US for the year.
