Akinnuoye-Agbaje, born in London to Nigerian parents, was given up for adoption to a white working-class family in Essex, faced challenges with his identity and racial abuse, attempted suicide, but later turned his life around, pursued education, and achieved success in modeling and received an honorary PhD.

Career

Akinnuoye-Agbaje's successful modelling career led him to Hollywood, where he gained recognition for his roles as Simon Adebisi in the TV series Oz and Mr. Eko in Lost, as well as notable film roles in The Bourne Identity, The Mummy Returns, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and Suicide Squad, while also working on developing and directing a film based on his own life story titled Farming, which won awards at the Edinburgh Film Festival.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who resides in Los Angeles, is a Nichiren Buddhist and a member of the Soka Gakkai International Buddhist association, requested to leave Lost to return to London following his foster parents' passing in order to direct a film there and is a supporter of Arsenal F.C.
