Kelly Miller Sr and Elizabeth Roberts had Kelly Miller oh July 23rd 1863. He was the sixth of ten children. Kelly Mller was born in Winnsboro South Carolina.

Kelly Miller when to school from 1878to 1880. He was in primary school when Reverand William Richerson a teacher and Presbyterian minister has set up schools for African-Americans in had considerable talents. (mainly in mathematics). Mr Richerson taught Kelly humanities and classics. Seeing Kelly excel in mathematics he recommended that Kelly continue his education at the Fairfield Insitute in Winnsboro. An institute for African-Americans founded by Mr. Richerson ( he was its first principal).

Kelly Miller was an educator, mathematician, writer, and advocate for African American education. He was the first African Americans to enroll at John Hopkins University Baltimore. At John Hopkins University, he studied mathematics, physics, and astronomy. Some years later, he taught mathematics in high school and eventually became a professor of mathematics at Howard University. Kelly Miller is recognized as a prolific African American pamphleteer, producing dozens of essays published by him or by other African American publishers.

Kelly Miller passed away on December 29, 1939, in Washington D.C. at the age of 76. His death was caused by a heart attack.
