Apostle Dr. Micheal Kwabena Ntumy

Michael Kwabena Ntumy was a Ghanaian Pentecostal televangelist, an Apostle, and the fourth Chairman of The Church of Pentecost from 1998 to 2008. 

Scholarship and Higher Education

In 1973, at the age of 15, Michael Kwabena Ntumy enrolled at Atebubu Teachers’ Training College and graduated with a Teachers’ Certificate “A” in 1977 at the age of 19, among the seventh batch of graduates that year. Later, he received a scholarship in 1992, attending an Advanced Christian Leadership Seminar in Singapore. He pursued higher education at Regents Theological College in the UK, earning a Master of Theology degree in 2000. Motivated by a thirst for knowledge, he pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Theology and Organizational Governance from an affiliated college of the Southern Christian University in the USA, graduating in 2008.

                                                                       

 

Ministry and Missionary Work

In 1984, at the age of 26, Michael Kwabena Ntumy joined The Church of Pentecost in full-time ministry, undergoing training at the Pentecost Bible Training Centre in Accra. He served in various locations, including Tamale and Krachi Nkwanta. In 1988, he embarked on a missionary journey to Liberia, where he and his family were held hostage during the civil war but miraculously survived and returned to Ghana in 1991. Later, he was appointed as National Head in La Cὃte d’Ivoire, where he and his wife were involved in a severe motor accident during a ministerial trek in July 1992. In 1996, he was reassigned to France as the church's Resident Missionary and National Head.

 

                                                                       

 
 
 

Leadership and Chairmanship

Subsequently, Ntumy was transfered to France as the church's Resident Missionary and National Head. His impactful service led to his election as the 4th Chairman of The Church of Pentecost in 1998 at the age of 40. During his ten-year tenure, the church experienced remarkable growth, garnering global recognition. This achievement earned him the prestigious Order of the Volta, Companion national laurel from President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Contributions and Achievement

Under the leadership of Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy, The Church of Pentecost experienced remarkable growth and development. In education, the Church’s then Bible College was upgraded to a university status and known as Pentecost University College, now Pentecost University; the two Pentecost senior high schools in Koforidua and Kumasi, and other educational facilities were established. Additionally, the church expanded its healthcare services by establishing numerous health centers across Ghana and enhancing the Pentecost Hospital in Madina. The Church’s membership grew by over 100%, increasing from 803,229 to 1,699,412 at the end of his tenure. This led to the creation of many administrative Areas and Districts to ensure the effective management of the members and church resources.

Later Years and Disability

At the age of 50 in 2008, Apostle Dr. Ntumy concluded his tenure as Chairman and assumed the role of national head in Germany. Unfortunately, following a surgical procedure on his cervical spine in France, he experienced paralysis in the lower part of his body. Despite this challenge, fueled by unwavering faith and optimism, he remained undeterred. Beginning in 2013, he transitioned into the role of Director of Literary Works for the church, serving diligently until his retirement in Hamburg, Germany, on September 24, 2023. Returning to Ghana on December 18, 2023, marked the beginning of his well-deserved rest from active ministerial duties.

                                                           

Passing and Legacy

On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, Apostle Dr. Ntumy was called to his eternal home by the peaceful and glorious clarion call of God. With joy in his heart, he answered this divine summons, leaving behind a profound legacy of Christian service and great testimonies. Though his departure has left a significant void, his memory and contributions will continue to inspire and uplift many.
